Stage Challenge Recount

Last Tuesday I competed with some of the girls and boys that came mostly from Melville high school and some from Melville intermediate. We competed against 13 other schools around Hamilton. We had trained for 8 weeks but it was worth it anyway because we got to see their practices in the morning when we got there.

Around 5:30 all the schools were practicing one school at time on stage, they got to practice  3 times until 1 of the members that were in charge came out and he said “ it’s time to get this party started so clap those hands and party like you never did before”. So we danced around for 4 songs and then another member came on stage and she said “don’t waste your energy yet cause there are more things that I got to say. Like there is a finding hunt, dancing competitions, stack the elephants on top of each other, stack a pyramid of elephants and do the hula in a hula-hoop”.

When the time was around 6:00 pm it was time for all the leaders to run onto a white star that had a number at the back of the other side. When our leader picked up her star, she got the last number 13. The first member came out again and he said “leaders do you want to know why you got that number?”. We said  “that is the number you are in so if your number 1 your first on stage and perform in front of thousands of people and if you have the number 13 you are last".  So Melville was performing last on stage which was a good thing cause we had heaps of time to get a rest, we could also go and watch them practice over and over and they were pretty cool.

When it was around 6:30, all the parents were coming to watch the performance so all the schools had to leave the stage and go to their group and get ready to perform on stage at 7:00. Melville didn’t need to worry cause we were last.  We all started to prepare except me because I had a fast blood rush coming out of my nose because I had stage fright. Mary who was in the war group took me to Saint Johns that was only around the corner. When we got to Saint Johns, they gave me some medication to take whenever I get stage fright. If my nose starts to bleed even faster I had to take my medication before I went on stage.

Now it was our turn to go on stage. As we were going everybody said that they will give their best and have a great time. We did and we never made a mistake. When we were finished all of the schools had to leave again so the judges could make their decisions to see what school gets the golden CD. All the schools came out and sat on the seats in front of the stage. We sat in front of all the schools. When they pronounced all their certificates, we had got 13 out of 14 certificates( because backstage made one little mistake). When the last lady came up with the golden CD inside a frame she was about to announce the winning school. We saw her mouth form into a M and we knew it was us and we were right and we won. Melville was yelling and screaming and happy crying saying that we won.

When it was finished 6 different schools came up to us and did the Haka and all the boys and girls from our group joined and did the Haka in front of nick our sound boy and Cian our leader and MS Christen plus MS Bleaken and our helpers. When everything was picked up and the rubbish was in the bin I got dropped off from a lady named Mareta who was Marcae’s mum which he was in the war group aswell. As I got home around 12:00, I crashed right on the couch.

Stage Challenge

StageChallenge 045 Yesterday morning, Monday 24th, at about 10a.m Rooms 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 from Melville intermediate went up to the high school to watch the stage challenge performance. When we were lining up it was freezing, it was like 1 degree.

StageChallenge 044

The dance was about Rangi, the sky father and Papatuanuku, the land mother. It was based on their love and how they got split apart.

The high school and our school were combined together in the performance.  The students have been working hard on designing the performance since Term 1. They had to come up with the ideas, dance, music and costumes.

StageChallenge 025

Their costumes were really cool I had never seen anything like it before.
The dances were amazing to watch they told us most of the story without even talking to us.

StageChallenge 039The props were creative and they almost looked like real ones.
Most of our class liked it. It was probably a new experience for most of us year 7s.

The music matched the dances in every way and they really looked like they were enjoying performing for us.

Over all it was a great performance and it was awesome to watch.

It was a very hot summer day. We were swimming at the water-hole. I was about to jump off the top rock. I took a deep breath and… jump. It felt like I was flying. I hit the water it was black and I couldn’t see. Then I saw something white swimming towards me. I swam away as fast as I could. I got to the rocks and yelled up to Jaykib “I think there’s a polar bear in the water”.                                                                                                    There isn’t a polar bear in there it’s just an expensive looking towel” Jaykib said.                                                                                          “Oh” I said. Then I leaped off the rocks

On a normal day there was a flying polar bear going over a sky scarper, once it hit the sun every-thing went pitch black, people screaming, shouting and most people bumping into posts, other people and things they shouldn’t touch.
On the second day tornados and heaps of wind, people trying to going.
The light was so expensive so people had to service in the dark without light most time people sleep all day.
On the third day lightning started and thunder, my neighbor she went outside and she had to fight for her life.
This is what happened and it is called black summer.

The light was so bright! Kayla Jordon Jaykib and I were playing spot light. “Ouch” screamed. Kayla had shone the torch right in my eyes. I came out of the shed and gave Kayla the evil eyes. “Your it” Kayla said… “I found you first” she added.                                                                                                                           “Fine” I said. I found Jaykib and Jordon. I went inside and counted to 20. “Ready or not here I come” I yelled. I could hear someone in the tree. I shone the torch in the      tree and saw jaykib sitting there staring at me!                                                                                                   “LOL” he said. I looked around the back-yard trying to spot someone hiding.

I sat in bed, until I saw light. So I walked to it and the light was so bright that it was burning my eyes but I had to be strong and keep going.
Soon I was feeling around and then I felt it. It was warm it didn’t feel really hot; as I tried to grad it I fell on to hard ground.

In the morning the world had turned in to wilderness I got up and looked around someone was rushing this way “quickly hurry, hurry this way please you must get ready for the day” what does he mean, where am I?

Asb financial literacy

Today we had a visitor from ASB bank. He came to talk with us about saving money.
He said we should all have CAT goals.
A CAT goal is

Clear
Action
Time

We need to know clearly what we are saving for. We need to put into action a savings plan. We need to know how long it will take to save.

The light was so bright it felt like my eyes were going to burn, just then I thought it was a bad day to come to the beach.
I looked in my bag for my sunglasses “oh no I forgot them”
I ran towards the water my feet were burning as I ran across the sand “crunch crunch” I can hear the shells breaking as I stomped on them.
Splash I dropped into the water it feels really nice it feels like I’m in heaven it also reminds me of a song “Wade in your water” That is a really cool song.

I love swimming.

Your Skin

A couple of weeks ago we read a class blog from Australia that spoke about bullying. The class asked the question, If every word you said appeared on your skin, would you be more careful with what you said?

We were challenged to think off all the things we would want to say to our friends and about ourselves and that we would be proud to have on our skin.

This is what we came up with

Popcorn growing

One day in reading we were reading an article about some kids that planted popcorn seeds. We thought that we might try it too.First we had to buy some popcorn seeds Mr Willis bought some popcorn and we placed it in between some wet papper towels. Then we waited until they started sprouting roots.
We left them for about 3 weeks so that the roots could grow bigger and bigger. Then we filled a tray with soil. When they were big enough we planted them in the soil and gave them a bit of water now we have to wait for them to grow.

What does your skin say about you?

A school in Australia has been studying about bullying.

In Health, the students in Five White have been learning about bullying. They were asked the following question that made them think about their actions.
If the words you spoke appeared on your skin, would you be more careful about what you say?
The students used an app called ‘aTypo Picture’ to take a photo of their face or their hand and add the words they would want to appear on their skin. Take a look at the images below.

What would yours skin say about you, Room 6?

Not just for eating

We read a book about growing kumaras. We got the idea from the book to grow a pot plant. We looked for Paul to help us grow our kumara pot plant. We put the kumara in the jar with water and waited for two weeks. It started growing roots and leaves.

Plants 007We decided to take it out of the jar and put in another pot with soil.
We left it at the glass house and watered it every weekdays.

We patted the dirt to keep it smooth and keep the plants stable.

We put our kumara plants next to some baby tomato plants we watered it everyday came to school.

100wc week 33

The door swings open by the gushing wind. A short burst of penetrating air tunnels into the house. But not only wind came in, also a bird swooped down and perched itself on top of the door, it ruffles its bright blue and yellow feathers. The bird bellows in to my mum’s bed room, I hear a yell. I run into the room with a small smirk on my face, the bird settled on her head. I notice that something warm and drippy slides down her black hair. A loud scream crinkles out  her mouth, this time I burst laughing.

Growing your name

Today we went back to check on our names we couldn't see our names because the plants were to big. Paul has planted our names in the ground because they needed more space to grow.Plants 003Plants 004

100 word challenge

It was a sunny day.

During the harvest season the birds line up in the trees hoping to snag them a feast. The farmers would do their job of harvesting corn, wheat, apples and other crops. The birds took flight and headed over in an attack formation. The birds swooped down and the farmers would attack the birds with whatever was in their hand. When it looked like there was no hope of the farmers this battle, it started to rain and all the birds fled. The farmers were fortunate that the birds fled because they would not have won.

100wc

The birds swooped down and swirled while singing around me, as the sun shone above the trees. Soon I was in the city and the birds swooped in and sat peacefully on the power lines I justed relised the birds had follow me out of the forest. Slowly the sun went down I waved them goodbye as they flew in to the sunset. I slowly shut my curtains as I wonder where will they go? When the sun came up a little blue bird started to whistle by the window so I decided to go outside in the warm sun...

100 word challenge #33

It was 9:00am when I saw nothing but a bunch of birds. Flying through the sky I knew it was time for my bird watching to come into place I grabbed my binoculars and ran outside it took a while for me to catch my eye on them again but when I did I was under way but suddenly they looked like they were going to attack. And then… THE BIRDS SWOPPED DOWN AND attacked me I started running for my life but I wasn’t fast enough and it was too late they got me I ended up getting attacked.

Math Question

The tractor uses 3/4 of a litre of petrol every 2 Km.  If petrol cost $1.50 per litre then how much is it costing the framer to drive around his farm?

How much would he spend on petrol in a year?

100 Word Challenge

The garden, a lovely, wonderful place of joy, but this garden is a bloody war zone. The allies were the humans, who were picking their strawberries, and the enemies were the birds. Suddenly the birds swooped down and attacked the strawberry plants with their ferocious golden sharp beaks, munching away on the strawberry juice. The adults had to act fast before the dirty birds munch away all of the strawberry plants. The adults fought back with sticks and stones which were working, the birds were getting scared so they flew back into the dreadful forest filled with dark mysterious creatures.

100 wc week33

I sat watching the birds. When all of a sudden the birds swooped down and stole my sandwich. I yelled at the birds then went inside to make another sandwich. I went outside with my new sandwich and sat down. The birds were sitting in the tree “stupid sparrows” I said. I started eating my sandwich when the birds started getting closer. I went inside back inside and watched them from the window. I went into the kitchen and grabbed some moldy bread. I went into the garden and threw the bread onto the grass. The birds ate it happily.

100wc #33

The birds swooped down and started eating the bread that I threw out to them, man the screeching sound makes me feel like I’m in a room filled of vicious lions eating a zebra.
It also reminds me of a crocodile catching a buffalo as its herd runs across the river.
There are many types of birds that I am feeding, there are ducks, geese, fantail, parrots and also three baby pukekoes, and they’re so cute.
Suddenly they start running away because there is a dog coming.
Tomorrow I will just make sure I’m in a dog free zone, area.

Inter - Intermediate Hockey

On Thursday a group of students went to Inners Common to compete in the Inter-Intermediate Hockey Tournament.  As the students were all excitedly putting on thei gear they finally got on the bus.

It was around 9:30 when we had our first game against Peachgrove. As it was our first game we were all getting the hand of what posiion we were playing and lost. We still had high hope for the rest of the tournament.

In our second game we came up against Berkley. We were so close to getting a goal but they really have good defines and lost that game too. Our second to last game was against Morrinsville we finally got a goal and everyone was screaming with excitement and then as soon as we ran to half way and the referee blew his whistle they slip pass as and got a goal but we still had a tie. And our last game was against Fairfield we lost that game too but we still had a fun exciting day.

100wc Week 33

The trees are blowing in the wind, the grey clouds are covering the sky as I walk through the dark hollow woods, the birds swooped down and I fell the wind blowing in my face. I hear the flapping sound of the birds wings, I cover my face I fell the birds becks  trying to peck at my face the sound fades. I slowly take my hands away from my face, I see my hands are red and bloody  I slowly make my way back home from going tree to tree, slowly creeping in the woods there back again no.

Arbor Day

17 children went to Arbor Day from Melville Intermediate with three adults to help.

Arbour Day 093We left at 9:15am to go to Arbor Day.

We all were excited when we got to Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park. Their were lots of kids and adults, thats all we could see.
We had got told that we could get off the bus.'Ohh man it was cold outside', it felt like we were turning itto an ice-block.

It was a long walk by the time we got to the place were everyone was. 20 minutes came by and every-one was waiting paciently while there was a lady showing us how to plant the trees as well as she was planting the first tree of the day (kauri tree).

Arbour Day 100
It was time to get started planting. Bria was the first person out of Melville Intermedaite to plant the first tree, it was a very large baby tree. The time went so fast it was lunch time, every-one was heading up to the saugage sizzle. We all asked Miss De Ward if we could go up to get a saugage sizzle. "YES" of course. Miss De Ward walked into the tent to get a box and a bag full of Just Juice.

There was 1 hour left to plant the rest of the trees by the time we were getting on the bus to head back to school. We started to head over to the otherside of the farm to plant the plants that had not been planted.
Melville Intermediate Students planted 100 odd plants in the last hour. All the girls from Melville Intermediate were colecting the black conaners from the plants and putting them on the long black snake that the little kids made.

It was time to go back on the bus to go back to school. We all had a fantasic day, thanks to the perents.

As we went to the beautiful lake the THE BIRDS SWOOPED DOWN AND landed on me, I took out some of my bread and fed them. They looked very happy after I fed them. It looked like they were hungry before that is why they swooped down and landed on me, I kept feeding them until they flew away, then I went to the other birds and feed them. After a while my Mum called me and asked me if I wanted to walk. “Yes” I replied. Once we were half way my Mum stopped because she was really tired.

Inter - Intermediate Football

Soccer Tournament

soccer 009

Melville Intermediate boys football team was lead on to the field by Te Auripo Manguatu, and James Nove, on the 30th of May 2013.
Melville played a great first game, but having to play straight away had them a bit shaky out of the starting gates, losing to Fairfeild 1-0.
The boys lost there second game 2-0 against T.A, which had the boys spirits at an all time low, knowing that they win their last two games made them start thinking what do they have to do to win?
SMASH! a surperb strike by oue captain Te Auripo left us 1-0 at the half of game 3. The second half started and a great break away from Tane left the defence scrambleing back to goal as Tane crossed the ball into Brooklyn for our seconded goal, the finaly score 2-0 to Melville.
soccer 056The forth game our last chance of getting into the semi's, but we had to go against the hardest team there... Cambrigde. As always the Cambrigde boys back up their words as they said they'll smash us, a whooping 3-0 lost for Melville canceling any hopes of makeing it into the semi's.
Melville had one more game, 7th - 8th play off. At half time the score was nill all, and it was the same in the second half, but right in the dieing seconds of the game Tane scored a great goal for a 1-0 win to Melville.
Overall Place: 7th
