Bone carving module

Bone carving module ...

Bone carving was a really fun experience , it was also very challenging. At first I thought we were just going to use chisels and lots of sand paper to make our carvings but then Matua Pete (The Bone Carving Teacher) showed us that there are actually a lot of steps to make the perfect carving/taonga .

Matua Pete helped me a lot with my carving from straightening up my lines to out lining it with a nice border.

The first step for us was to shape our taonga. The second step was to sand and then draw a pencil design on our bone. Matua Pete then showed us how to use an electric drill to actually carve into our bone and then add some Paua. More sanding and a bit of water sanding a bit of Straightening from Matua Pete and polishing and it was done.

One night me and my mum were sitting on the back step.
The step was cold and the sky was pitch black the moon was bright.
I looked up in to the sky and saw something I through it was glowing lanterns coming from the Hamilton gardens.
I said to my mum” look up can you see something beautiful and bright in the sky?” my annoying brother woke up and saw the beautiful lanterns to.
The lanterns were as bright as the sun.
The beautiful lanterns started going further and further away.

The lanterns were gone we were fast asleep.

One weird night my friends and I were crashed out in the lounge when suddenly we saw something bright and flash. We all descended into a 4 dimensional world. As we tried to open our eyes to see where we had landed “ look up can you see?” that whispered Chevan “yes” muttered Norway “where are we” interrupted Taylor “ look there’s millions of birds flying around like something was following them. A few minutes past when out of nowhere a flying beast eating alive birds and we all screamed “argh” how are we going to get out of here.

The day is 20th of march 2025, I’ve been surviving on a box of dry vanilla biscuits and an old jug of water, for the last three years I’ve been living in an bomb shelter with nothing to eat but a mouth full of water and a crumb of a biscuit each day it’s been hard to survive since the thing came back I am tempted to go outside to scavenge for food, so I shall. I slowly creek the big steel rusty door open it clicks then opens all I see is an empty field of rocks then I look up! Can u see it, its back.

“Look up can you see it? “What? “A Tui gliding through the wind and hovering above the forest”. Tramping through the woods the branches stretched out to touch us. We slowly took a gimps of the sky as we were walking up the steep hill. Then I carefully removed the broken branches so I could see the path, tramping over broken branches and stick insects I saw an enchanted flower bloom. Squeezing through gaps and escaping from wasp’s colonies we got to the top of the forest, I saw birds nesting and that was my best day ever.

It’s in a weird round shape it’s got blinking lights it’s so bright and colourful. Oh no it’s shooting lasers at me! Ahhh! I thought aliens came in peace!? Maybe I should get a peace offering fruit! Maybe they would fruit ! The space ship crashed into the garden oh no! What a waste! The aliens walked out of the space ship I gave them my peace offering then they threw it away they said we come to destroy living things.

“Look up can you see it” said Hannah shakily pointing up to a bug in the corner of the shady room. John (Hannah’s brother) mumbled “what! What is it”

“I don’t know! it  looks like a bug and a human mixed together help I’m scared” said Hannah “come on john your my older brother you should know what to do get a blanket” said Hannah. John sprinted down to the cupboard he grabbed the first thing he saw, a blanket “.Hurry!!!” yelled Hannah still sitting in the room. John chucked the blanket over the bug and suffocated it to death.

“Look up! Can you see that flying elephant blowing chocolate out of its trunk? Shouted Tamara. “Whoa that is amazing I want to catch one I’m hungry”, yelled Shae. They were so amazed by what they saw. They both ran around picking up chocolates. Then the elephant dropped down a huge chocolate, “wow that is humungous” screamed Tamara. It was so creamy the caramel was pouring down like a colourful waterfall. Then whoosh, it suddenly disappeared. “Where did it go?” called Tamara “it has disappeared”, says Shae. “Oh well let’s go inside and eat our chocolates”, they both sprinted inside.

100 Word Challenge

Look up! Can you see that light beaming over the misty valley?  The valley is usually dark and full of noises you cannot imagine. When I was young I got told to never go into the dark bits of the valley apparently there are goblins that have eyes that can turn people into solid gold, and the sharp teeth glimmer in the moonlight. “My grandfather once said to never speak to a magically evil unicorn. Their cuteness is there charm do not get fooled they are out to kill they live off humans. AND THE HUNT STILL GOES ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Look up! Can you see it?” Lana tugged at Emily’s shoulder. The feathery beasts flying from tree to tree as they sang their musical songs. Even the fantails and tui’s flew down to the ground sometimes. The sunshine breaking in-between the tree tops as a little patch of sunlight peering down on mother earth. Lana skipped along the damp swamp sinking in as the shape of her new sneakers. Funguses grew on old broken wood which fascinated Emily since it was her project for school. Step by step, silence awakened. Where were the feathery beasts? Where were their musical songs?

Shared Morning Tea

On Wednesday the 11th of March 2014 at Melville Intermediate School, Room 6 prepared a morning tea for our parents.

There were 6 groups in the food technology class.
We had 1 hour to make 3 things. My group made Jam Tarts, club sandwiches and cheesy snacks. The first thing we did was wash our hands to keep hygienic. After making the food we CAREFULLY took the food to our class and at first sight it felt and looked like a Royal Morning Tea as the food kept coming in through the door the smell was delightfully peaceful. people were not talking at all until about half way thought everyone was all of a sudden people started talking and students started showing of there work and parents started laughing and talking with Mr Willis. whaea Chelsea came with there 1 month baby named Emily after all the adults had eaten as kids took our turn at the master piece cooking. after everyone had eaten the parents started leaving and we all started washing the dishes and returning the class back to its natural position then getting our lunch and getting back to a normal day.

Makuhari Powhiri

Yesterday Melville Intermediate welcomed our guests from Makuhari Junior High. We gave them a traditional Maori welcome, a Powhiri. It was their first time experiencing this and we have put together some of the highlights.

Our Garden

On week 4 we started to develop our garden in the Biotech area. The garden was full of weeds and a dusty brown coloured soil, When you touched the dirt plumes of dust exploded into the air. Broden added some    rich and golden compost into the garden. He hat to dig deep to find all the good soil. we spread at dug it in.
Mr Willis brought a range of  new plants
for the new garden  and we planted them into its new home.

Keep an eye on our blog as our plants grow

rippa rugby tournament

Just as March started Melville's rippa team got together and begun practising.  For a week and a half we did drills during our lunch time getting ready for our tournament that was on Thursday the 6th of March.

It was the day. The day that we had to play our best. Our first game was against St Joseph's Red. We lost that game because we were practising the wrong rules but it was only our first game so we all held our head up high and hoped for the best for the rest of the games.

Our next game was against Gordenton B. Finally we won our first game. We all worked well together as a team even the boys shared the ball to the girls a lot in the game. A lot of us got a try. Me, Luke, Chilo, Jackson and Drasan all got a run away try.

The next games were against Gordenton A, Te Kowhai B, Te Kowhai A and St Joseph's Black and guess what, we won those games as-well. Because of that we made it to the finals where we versed St Joseps Red again. We all were tired but we sucked it up. Sadly we lost the finals but we still made it to Regional's.

Here comes some more practise's for our runners up rippa team bring on regional's.

Claymation

The last two weeks during modules we have be creating claymation. We had to start by looking at different examples and finding what worked well. It was best to keep the characters simple and the stories short.

I created a storyboard so that I knew what my characters were going to do. I then painted the background and created my two characters. I then worked hard taking lots of photos so that it looked like my cat was moving.

This is my video I hope you enjoy it.
