Bone carving module

Bone carving module ...

Bone carving was a really fun experience , it was also very challenging. At first I thought we were just going to use chisels and lots of sand paper to make our carvings but then Matua Pete (The Bone Carving Teacher) showed us that there are actually a lot of steps to make the perfect carving/taonga .

Matua Pete helped me a lot with my carving from straightening up my lines to out lining it with a nice border.

The first step for us was to shape our taonga. The second step was to sand and then draw a pencil design on our bone. Matua Pete then showed us how to use an electric drill to actually carve into our bone and then add some Paua. More sanding and a bit of water sanding a bit of Straightening from Matua Pete and polishing and it was done.
