Term 1 Tramp to Tirohanga

Last term room 6 went on a tramp to Tirohanga. It was decided that we would go on thursday but due to the weather it was changed to friday. On friday still raining but only lightly, the buss pulled up everyone lined up the entered the bus, apart from the late kids, the excitment has begun.

"Finally were here" apart for the occasional stop it was a nice trip. We all get out of the bus and get set for the long tramp. Mr Willis quickly calls the roll then we get started. Its started, the sound of birds singing and water trickling fills your ear.

When we got deeper and deeper the views got better and better,we stopped for a lunch then continued. We struggled a little on the chained section but only  a few. Once we got to Ruapane we stopped again to eat and enjoy the view. When we were done eating we went off again. Mostly running through the bush we finally got to Tirohanga, the last climb was awaiting us. Mr Willis goes up first to make sure it is safe, then we followed hin group by group, then we all got to the top. It was an amazing experience you could see what it took us to get here.

Watch the clip below to see some photos ftom our experience.

Girls Basketball - Koromatua vs Melville

Every Tuesday night the Melville Intermediate girls basketball team play's against other team and school's. On Tuesday night the 28th of May 2013  the Melville Intermediate girls basketball team play against Koromatua at 5:30pm. Playing Koromatua was a hard game at the start Koromatua was a head of us only by a few points, but we got through it and won.

The score's were 48-42, Nichola got  14 points, Lonita got 10, Davy got 6, Anathalia got 16, and last but not least I got 2. At half time the scores were 22-16 in the 3rd quarter the scores were a draw 32-32 then finally on  the  last few  minutes the scores were 48-42.

Last term the girls basketball team was in the C grade and now since we have won all of our games we are in the B grade.  There were injuries, Nichola had broken her finger, Anathalia sprained her fingers. Some players of Koromatua were tall and some were short, lots of us could defend them easily but they were tricky and fast.

The team felt good when we won but at the start I was a bit nervous then when Anathalia jumped for the ball I got in to it. !!! Hooray for the team!!!

Hard materials

When I first got into hard materials I thought that we were going to just nail pieces of wood together but actually it was more than that, you actually have to nail in certain places for it to work.

We made our boxes bit by bit, then when we had to nail it all together it was really hard because you could not see through the box. I hoped and prayed that the nail did not end up in the middle of the box. Then, well it came to the most boring bit, sanding, lucky for me Mr Yardley sanded most of it on his automatic sander.

When the box was finished Mr Yardley put some blue velvet into it then we got to do a cool design on it. I drew my design in pencil first then I used the burner and burnt my design to make it stand out .

The Enemy

In class Mr Willis has been reading us "The Enemy".

So far Deke, and Small Sam have been attacked by the adults, which are called mothers and fathers. They are hiding out at a supermarket which is their safe place, for now.

They have just rescued a small boy from a mob of attacking adults from the outside parking lot. They brought him inside and demanded him to tell them what he was doing, he has just told them about a new safe spot which they are now intrigued in this safe spot.

This book is enjoyable, and I am looking foward to seeing what is going to happen...

Not just for eating

During reading we learnt that a kumara is not just for eating.  You can use a kumara as a pot plant.

Everyone in the group was given a kumara to try and grow.

We put them in water and waited for the roots to sprout.  After 1 week there was roots and small leaves.
3 weeks later one of the kumara have massive leaves. We will plant them in a pot plant soon

Growing our Name

Once we have to find Paul we ask him to help us to plant our names. We had packs of seeds on our hands. When we've showed him he say that the names will take a week to grow so he said that we should cheat. He takes our packs of seeds and gives us a tray of seedlings.

We had to poke holes in the dirt of our trays and put the seedlings in it.  We had to be careful to plant them in the shape of our names. We started with the first letter of our names and planted them.

This was our names planed. We had to keep watering our plants every second day.  They were growing pretty fast.

This is our names after 1 week. They have grown lots and it was fun.  We have to ask Paul what to do with our names now that they have grown.
